We now Have 3 States prepared to Fight against Single Use Plastics! Let's Go Aussie

Welcome to the party Victoria! Victoria is the 3rd state to join the ranks in the fight against single-use plastic. That is massive Australia congratulations!! By 2023 Victoria will ban all single-use plastics from public use in the state this includes namely straws, plastic cups, polystyrene containers, cutlery, and cotton bud sticks from use in restaurants, cafes, and for sale.
It won't include or affect medical or scientific equipment, emergency services, or other services that require these plastics. “Single-Use Plastic Items – like straws and plastic cups make up about one-third of Victoria’s litter Lily D’ Ambrosio the Environment minister stated.
Each Victorian sends an average of 68kg of plastic waste to a landfill every year and when you consider how much a plastic straw or cup weighs and it accounts for one-third that’s a shit load of straws and cups we are using and throwing out. I know I can feel the complaining from here about how shit paper is and how yuck wood tastes (also single-use so doesn’t even really matter if we change to that or biodegradable) – that’s another story on its own. So don’t, don’t choose that as your alternative when the law comes in or as you prepare for the state-wide ban.
For most plastics, there are so many reusable alternatives it's awesome. The way of the future isn’t to replace single-use plastic with single-use paper, wheat, or whatever – whilst these are all great and innovative alternatives, they are not sustainable. It is like putting a band-aid on a leaky bucket a quick to an evolving problem. Do not. Think reuse not replace.
Think where in your house, in your car, in your life you can reuse not replace. Every-time we have a coffee, should we just throw out the cup? Have friends over for dinner – biff their cutlery once they have used it? Cocktail night at home doesn’t serve crappy paper straws in your exquisite cocktails – how about some stunning glass or gold cocktail straws? Perfectly suited to your cocktail glasses?
I can hear you now, there are reusable items for outside of the home as well! Whhaaaattttt, crazy I know. You’ve heard of Keep Cups (and if you haven’t where have you been? In Palmy North?? *Joking #sorrynotsorry). Well, there are now Keep Straws! Whaaaattt, Crazy I know. We are estimated to use 50 million straws in Australia in a year. So what if we had a straw that we could take to sip our iced coffee from, or our boost lunch smoothie, or our sneaky drive-thru Maccas choccy shake on our way home? that’s 3 single-use straws not used in one day by one person. The whole one person doing one thing makes a difference it's actually true and that easy.
Trust me when I tell you I have heard every problem to this solution so none of what you come up with will be new – but my answer to your problems is to ask yourself “is it worth taking out 512 single-use straws on average from the cycle for $12-$15, then if it is well you do you boo. 😊
If its not you and you want to make a difference, or it's completely for selfish reasons such as you hate the feel or taste of the paper cutlery or straws then check out our travel range (including cutlery now). Or simply watch this space and see how it all unfolds ;)
